Tandem
Safety

A coach, not a therapist

Tandem helps with the words of everyday conversations. It is not therapy, counseling or mental-health care, and it is not for emergencies.

How Tandem keeps coaching safe

It helps both people, never one against the other

The coach won’t help anyone pressure, guilt, threaten or manipulate another person. It’s built to help you be understood, not to win.

It notices when something sounds unsafe

When a message or conversation includes signs of danger or crisis, Tandem puts the hotlines above right in front of you, with a reminder that your safety matters more than the conversation.

Everyone agrees to live sessions

No one can start listening alone. Every person agrees on their own phone, and anyone can end the session.

It can be wrong

The coach makes suggestions, not decisions. You choose what to send and what to say. Trust your own judgment, and the people who know you.

When to talk to a professional

Tandem can make everyday conversations easier. It can’t treat depression, anxiety, addiction or trauma, and it isn’t the right tool when there is abuse or fear in a relationship. A licensed therapist or counselor can help in ways an app can’t, and many offer couples and family sessions.

Tandem is for adults, and for teens 13 to 17 in a family circle with a parent or guardian. Read our terms of use.
