Tandem sits in the middle of some of your most personal moments. So we made privacy a set of rules in the product itself, not a page of settings.
What happens during a live conversation
Your phone listens only to your voice and turns it into text, right on the device.
Your lines of text are shared with the others’ phones in the session so the coach can follow along.
When anyone ends the session, the text is deleted. You keep a summary only if you choose to.
The audio itself never leaves your phone and is never saved, not even on the phone.
Our promises
Tandem only listens during a live session, and only after every person agrees on their own logged-in phone.
Any person in the session can stop it at any moment, for everyone.
When the AI coach is used, it gets text through our own servers. The AI key never ships inside the app.
“Help improve Tandem” is off by default. If you turn it on, examples are saved without your name or account, and personal details are removed first.
Check-ins, reflections and feelings you keep to yourself are visible only to you.
Delete your account from the Me tab in the app. We never sell your data.

- Messages you send in Tandem, and your reactions
- Your communication style and the profile guides you fill in, so they know how to talk with you
- Your picks for the week, only after everyone has picked
- Goals you share and the notes you add to Our list
